This programme is ideal for candidates with a solid educational foundation in maths, science, and N2-level engineering studies. It offers practical, accredited training in some of the most in-demand trades in South Africa.
What Is the Engineering Learnership Programme?
A learnership is a work-based learning programme that leads to a national qualification. At Two Rivers Platinum Mine, the Engineering Learnership is tailored to equip learners with the technical skills and knowledge needed to thrive in mining and heavy industry environments.
The programme combines theoretical instruction with on-the-job practical training. Once completed, learners will have the relevant skills and certifications to apply for positions as qualified artisans or further their studies in engineering.
Training Fields Available
A limited number of placements are available in the following fields:
- Diesel Mechanic
- Electrician
- Auto Electrician
- Fitter
- Boilermaker
- Plumber
Each field offers a distinct career path in the engineering sector. Whether you want to maintain heavy vehicles underground or install essential electrical systems, this programme gives you the chance to gain real-world skills while working with experienced professionals in a mining environment.
Minimum Entry Requirements
To qualify for the programme, candidates must meet both academic and technical requirements specific to each trade. Here’s a breakdown:
| Field | Educational Requirements |

A Closer Look at Each Trade
If you’re unsure which trade to choose, here’s a quick overview of what each one involves:
Diesel Mechanic
Maintain and repair heavy diesel-powered vehicles like trucks, buses, and mining machinery. A vital role in any mining or logistics operation.
Electrician
Install and maintain electrical systems in buildings, mining equipment, and control rooms. Electricians ensure the safe flow of power to essential systems.
Auto Electrician
Specialise in the electrical systems of vehicles, especially those used in mining and construction — diagnosing and fixing wiring, sensors, and control units.
Fitter
Fit and assemble mechanical components and machinery. Work often includes alignment, testing, and maintenance of moving parts and industrial machines.
Boilermaker
Fabricate and repair steel structures, boilers, and heavy containers used in mining. Skilled in welding, cutting, and reading technical drawings.
Plumber
Install and maintain water systems, including piping, fixtures, and sanitation equipment. Plumbers are vital for underground and surface infrastructure.
What to Expect After Applying
If your application is shortlisted:
- You may be invited for an interview or assessment to evaluate your technical aptitude
